Recently I had the chance to attend the Hot 97 Summer Jam 2021. I got a call from famed music industry attorney and owner of THE SOURCE MAGAZINE, L. Londell McMillan to hang out for a night of music, networking and content. So of course I was ALL IN!!
Going in to this I really didn’t think that this show was going to go as planned, seeing that hurricane Henri was beating down on the whole east coast. Of course it was raining cats and dogs outside and we really thought the show was going to be cancelled. Once arriving to Met Life Stadium we had go to production to get our rapid Covid test, once we tested NEGATIVE we were off to the VIP LOFT.
It took a while to for people to file in but once they did, the rain didn’t stop or interrupt the vibe of music. The highlight of the night was of course SWIZZ BEATS tribute to DMX!!! SWIZZ and friends really set the tone and took the vibe to a whole other level, kicking it off with The LOX. There pretty much a who’s who of Hip Hop Royalty, including the surprise of the night being a cameo from the Legendary Isley Brothers singing their classic “Between The Sheets”.
Overall the night turned into a great escape and the rain even stopped and allowed people to really enjoy without getting soaked. BUT going forward I really don’t know how much longer Hot 97 will be able to maintain the legend that is the New York Summer Classic THE SUMMER JAM!
Next year we’ll see what happens, and who is tapped to keep the tradition going. Over all we had a great time and I was able to capture some content of the night so enjoy and leave your comments below!
